When in Africa, the search for the continent’s iconic big game—lions, leopards, and elephants—often takes center stage. One afternoon, we embarked on a tranquil mokoro paddle through the glassy waterways of the Okavango Delta in Botswana, a welcome departure from the usual jeep-bound adventures. There, I shifted my photographer’s gaze to the delicate, quiet inhabitants of the African wilderness. A dragonfly, shimmering in the sunlight, alighted gracefully beside our wooden boat, pausing just long enough for me to capture its fleeting presence before it flitted off to its next mysterious destination.
